The Bridge

When I awoke this morning
And found this brand new day
What I saw outside my window
Well, it took my breath away

My eyes beheld a picture
Of a bridge up to the sky
At the base were bright hued flowers
That were dazzling to the eye

Below, there was an ocean
Such azure and peaceful waves
And the faint call of a seagull
Winging somewhere far away

The stone steps were a pathway
Anchored firmly in the ground
But they lead forever skyward
To infinity and beyond

I strained to see a little more
This staircase was so long!
This place I knew was heaven
Was echoing with song

I longed to climb the staircase
Ethereal and fine
But I heard an angel whisper
"No, not yet, it's not your time"

Was I dreaming or just waking?
What was the reality?
I have to say in truth, my friend
It didn't matter much to me
